Last Letter is a fast-paced word game where each answer in Chain and multiplayer starts with the last letter of the previous word. Blitz accepts any unused word in the category. Play solo for a high score in Chain or Blitz mode — with weekly leaderboards, the worldwide Daily Gauntlet, and friend Challenges — play locally with friends, or go online through Game Center.

Choose a Category

New installs start with Countries, Animals and Dog Breeds. Wins unlock more built-in categories, including five v2.1.0 packs: Cities, Foods, Movies and Football Players in English, and Greek Islands in English and Greek. Available categories vary by language. Combine categories to mix the pool, or create a custom list for local, AI or Solo play. Custom lists are not available online or on ranked leaderboards.

Use your voice with the built-in speech recognition, or tap "Type instead" to enter answers manually.

Keep the Chain Going

Your answer must start with the last letter of the previous word. Think fast — the clock is ticking!

The player who runs out of time or cannot think of a valid word loses the round. Last one standing wins!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, completely free. Last Letter has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions. There are no paid unlocks. New installs start with three categories; winning games unlocks more built-in packs.
Not for local play. You can play pass-and-play with friends without any internet connection. Online multiplayer through Game Center does require a stable internet connection.
2 to 8 players locally on one device — just pass the phone between turns. For online multiplayer, challenge other players through Game Center using a shareable party code.
Make sure you have granted Last Letter microphone and speech recognition permissions. You can check these in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and Settings > Privacy & Security > Speech Recognition.

If voice input still does not work, tap the "Type instead" button to switch to manual text entry as a fallback.

Choose English, Greek, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish or Finnish, or Japanese Shiritori. The interface can be selected independently, including Simplified Chinese; Japanese is a puzzle choice, not an interface option. Categories vary by language. Voice input requires an available on-device recogniser; you can type instead.
Connect an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible smart TV and your iPhone/iPad to the same Wi-Fi. Choose the receiver in Control Centre → Screen Mirroring and enter its passcode if asked. Last Letter shows a dedicated game and results view on the TV; controls and microphone stay on your iPhone/iPad. There is no separate Apple TV app.
Last Letter requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later. iPad features a dedicated layout with landscape three-column view and portrait card-based mode.
Absolutely. All game data stays entirely on your device. Last Letter does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. Voice recognition is processed on-device by iOS. We do not use analytics, trackers, or third-party SDKs.
Online multiplayer uses Game Center. To play online, make sure:

• You are signed in to Game Center in Settings > Game Center
• You have a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection
• Game Center services are not experiencing an outage (check Apple System Status)

If matchmaking takes too long, try cancelling and starting a new match.

Troubleshooting

App freezes or crashes

Force-quit the app and reopen it. If the issue persists, make sure you are running the latest version from the App Store and that your device is updated to the latest iOS.

Microphone permission denied

Go to Settings > Last Letter and enable the Microphone toggle. You may need to restart the app after changing permissions.

No sound effects

Check that your iPhone is not on Silent mode (flip the hardware switch on the side). Also verify that the in-game volume is not muted.

Timer seems too fast

The timer duration adjusts based on game difficulty settings. Check your difficulty settings before starting a new game to select a comfortable time limit.

AirPlay display not detected

Make sure your iPhone and the AirPlay receiver (Apple TV, smart TV) are on the same Wi-Fi network. Open Control Center and verify Screen Mirroring is active.
