Frequently Asked Questions

How do I import clips?
Connect your Tesla USB drive to your device. On iPhone/iPad, use a Lightning or USB-C adapter. On Mac, mount the drive normally. You can also use the Files app to import clips from cloud storage or other locations.
Which cameras are supported?
Up to 6 synchronized cameras: Front, Back, Left Repeater, Right Repeater, Left Pillar (AI4), and Right Pillar (AI4).
What is the telemetry HUD?
The HUD shows available driving data recorded in Tesla’s embedded clip metadata: speed, steering, brakes, throttle, turn signals, compass and driver-assistance status. Available fields depend on the recording. Tesla’s recorded value does not reliably distinguish FSD from basic Autosteer; do not treat the indicator as proof of either mode. Optional Tessie, TeslaMate or TeslaScope connections can add data such as battery, temperature, elevation and power where available.
Do I need a Tesla API subscription?
Core playback and embedded telemetry do not require a third-party subscription. Optional provider connections use your own account or server and their own terms and pricing.
What export formats are available?
Single camera, multi-camera grid, Director Mode, overlay-only, and forensic PDF. Quality goes up to 4K Ultra HD with H.264, HEVC, or ProRes 422 encoding.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. iPhone and iPad require iOS/iPadOS 16 or later; Mac requires macOS 13 or later and runs via Mac Catalyst, with playback keyboard shortcuts.
Is my data private?
Footage is processed on your device and is not uploaded to Qloud. Encrypted playback may require Tesla sign-in and a key request containing clip header metadata. Optional telemetry providers, Apple map/place-name services and user-selected network storage may also use the network. See our privacy policy for the boundaries. Read the policy.
How much does Sentry Clip Viewer cost?
Sentry Clip Viewer is a US$6.99 one-time purchase on the App Store — no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions.

Troubleshooting

Clips not importing

Choose the TeslaCam folder, including EncryptedClips where present. Make sure the drive is connected and its files are accessible through Files. Encrypted recordings may require Tesla sign-in with the account associated with the recording and available decryption keys.

No telemetry showing

Check whether the recording contains embedded telemetry. For optional provider data, verify your connection credentials and that the provider has data for the clip’s timestamp.

Export fails

Check that you have enough available storage on your device. 4K ProRes exports can be very large. Try reducing the export quality or selecting fewer cameras.

App crashes on large clips

Try reducing the export quality or splitting long recordings into shorter segments. Ensure your device is running the latest version of iOS/macOS.
